Split Pea Soup

Basically typical Split-Pea Soup is a soup made of stock and split peas with onions carrots and celery. There are few method to cook for this soup. You can use Slow Cooker to cook it too. Let's check out this great soup!


Split Pea Soup (Cook with Slow Cooker)

Ingredients

(8 Servings)

For ingredients, you need to prepare for 1 1/2 quarts of hot water, 1/2 teaspoon of fresh pepper, 1 tablespoon of seasoned salt, 1/4 cup of fresh parleys (chopped) or 2 teaspoons of dried parsley flakes, 1 bay leaf, 2 cloves of garlic (minced), 2 ribs of celery including leaves (chopped), 1/2 cup of onion (chopped), 3 carrots (peeled and sliced), 1 meaty hambone, 2 ham hocks, 2 cups of diced ham, 1 package of dried green split peas (rinsed) - 16 ounces

The Making

1). Put in all the above mentioned ingredients into slow cooker. Don't stir them. Cover it and cook on high (4-5 hours) or cook on low (8-10 hours) until peas are soft and tender. Remove the bay leave and the bones from ham. Mash peas to thicken more, if desired.

2). Garnish with croutons, Freezes well.

You can also cook the split pea soup in this way:


Boiling Split PeaSoup

Ingredients

To prepare 10 cups of Water, 1/4 tsp or to taste Pepper, 2 Clove Garlic (chopped finely), 2 cups of celery (chopped), 2 cups of Diced carrots, 3 cups of Onions (chopped),  2 pounds of Meaty ham bones and 1 pound of Dried split peas

The Making

Prepare a large soup pot, put in all the above mentioned ingredients, bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 3 hours until peas are tender. Stirring occasionally while stirring. Remove and discard ham bones. Cut meat into cube and set meat aside.

Puree the soup in a small batches in a blender. Return meat and soup to soup pot. Adjust the seasoning. Reheat for 5 minutes. Serve.

Quick Split PeaSoup

Ingredients

(6 Servings)

To prepare 2 cans of Condensed split-pea and ham soup, undiluted (114 ounces), 1 can of Condensed green-pea soup, undiluted (114 ounces), 2 cups of Diced cooked ham, Seasoning : Salt and pepper to taste, 2 teaspoons of  Instant minced onion

The Making

Prepare a saucepan, mix ham, onion, soup with 3 cups of water, mix them well. Boil it. Stir constantly. Reduce heat, cover the lid, simmer for about 15 minutes. Add in seasoning to taste. Serve and enjoy.
